Save the Old Stables Corner – St. Simons Island

by admin on July 2, 2010

If you’ve driven down Frederica in the past few days, you’ve probably noticed the “Save the Old Stables Corner” signs at the corner of Frederica and Sea Island Roads. For the last year, the St. Simons Land Trust  has been working to acquire the 2.3 acre wooded lot that was the home of the Old Stables for over fifty years. Not only a significant island landscape, the Old Stables site is a reflection of the island’s long standing character and charm. It would be a great loss to the community to lose this landmark corner to commercial development.

Save the Stables St. Simons

If the preservation of this area is important to you, please visit the St. Simons Island Land Trust website to read the different ways you can participate in this project.  The Land Trust mission is to preserve our Island’s natural and scenic character – few things are more characteristic of the “old” St. Simons then this corner grove of magnificent oak trees and the memory of the Old Sea Island Stables. Its loss would be tragic, its permanent preservation – beautiful.

Thanks for visiting and have a great day!
